In order for parents to volunteer at our school or attend field trips, parents must undergo Virtus training mandated by the Archdiocese of Miami. The VIRTUS Training Program incorporates proven best practice standards for the prevention of child sexual abuse by clergy, staff, volunteers, and others who interact with children within the Catholic church & Catholic School environment.
The Archdiocese of Miami is committed to providing a safe environment for everyone, especially children. We believe in education that raises awareness of sexual abuse, identifies the signs of sexual abuse, explains how to control access to our children as well as vulnerable adults, and encourages responsible reporting of abuse. The Archdiocese of Miami has chosen the VIRTUS program to achieve these goals.
VIRTUS Training happens throughout the year. Exact dates will be posted at the beginning of the school year and fingerprinting locations will be made available. You do not need to RSVP to attend the training sessions, however, you must sign-in and do follow-up online trainings in order to get credit for attending the training.
All employees of the Diocese and all volunteers (parents are volunteers due to mandatory hours required) who have contact/ interact with St. Jerome Catholic School students must attend the program as well as get fingerprinted.
You may also contact the Archdiocese of Miami’s Central Office for the Protection of Children & Vulnerable Adults, at 305-762-1057, to schedule fingerprinting.
Explanations of the fingerprinting process will also be distributed at the VIRTUS Training you choose to attend. The fingerprint information that the Archdiocese of Miami is interested in is as follows: criminal history related to sexual abuse, kidnapping or murder. Offenses such as: being caught smoking pot in college will not prevent you from being allowed to be a volunteer at school. Please note that all fingerprinting results are confidential.
